Wins Two SCOAP Awards for Information Technology Excellence
Date:
06/27/2003
OTTAWA,
June 27, 2003.
SCOAP, an Ottawa-based organization dedicated to facilitating
dialogue on issues related to information technology
(IT) in Canada, acknowledged both Scouts Canada, a Databeacon
customer, and Storydata.com, Databeacon's data analysis
portal dedicated to getting more insight out about the
news that affects our world, with a SCOAP Award of Excellence
at the organization's annual banquet last night. Databeacon
is a leading vendor of Web reporting and data analysis
software. The SCOAP Awards of Excellence are presented
annually to organizations in the National Capital Region
as a means of recognizing leadership, innovation and
overall excellence. The Awards are provided as a means
of identifying the "Best" from which other
organizations throughout Canada can model themselves.
The
award for Scouts Canada is for Best IT Initiative Resulting
in Positive Social or Community Advancement category.
Databeacon software was chosen by Scouts to be used
as the core of the organization's Membership Management
System. Scouts Canada cited Databeacon's ability to
deliver strategic insight and its 'pocketknife' functionality.
Serving more than 162,000 members and volunteer leaders
in seven youth programs, Scouts Canada relies on Databeacon
for the ability to analyze data and produce self-serve
statistical reports along with interactive charts and
graphs on the registration process, membership information,
group and section information, and its honors and awards
programs.
The
SCOAP award for Storydata.com is for Best IT Initiative
Resulting in Positive Social or Community Advancement
category. Created in October 2001 as a promotions project
to showcase Databeacon software's ease of use for anyone
with a browser and connection to the Internet, Storydata.com
(www.storydata.com)
has evolved into a worldwide Internet destination to
examine and interact with data about the news that affects
our world. Storydata.com has also received awards from
MediaMap ExpertPR ('Site most useful to journalists'),
the BigChalk Education Network ('Top 8 very best online
academic research destinations'), Yahoo Internet Life
('Incredibly Useful Site') and is referenced as a key
data analysis site at Suffolk University, UCLA and other
academic institutions.
"We
are happy to receive one SCOAP award, but receiving
two awards is very humbling," said Databeacon President
and CEO Andy Coutts. "This is an excellent endorsement
of the progress Databeacon is making to become the world's
leading vendor of online Web Reporting and Data Analysis
software."
In
March, Databeacon won the 'Best Desktop Information
Management Tool' award from the E-Content Institute,
and in June, the company was chosen as one of the 'Top
5 Tech Companies to Watch' by the Ottawa Citizen.
